Soukh Couture - Exclusive clothing

About Us
Soukh is a family run North African online boutique. Its idea was conceived following our own experiences in Morocco and our love and appreciation of its unique charm and individual style. We aim to provide an online gateway to the extraordinary and exquisite handicrafts of the traditional Moroccan marketplace to an international audience seeking authentic handmade giftware, home ware, jewellery and fashion.

The magic of the Medina, its vibrancy, colour and sensory assault have left a lasting impression on us. We hope that our products will help to evoke the spirit of the Soukh and inspire both old aficionados and the new contemporary Morocco enthusiasts alike.

The Soukh
The Soukh is the name given to the multi-faceted market-places or bazaars that are found all over the Middle East and North Africa. Pity the merchant, the businessman and the millionaire. The size of his fortune, or the lack of it, matters not - for he is possessed by the spirit of the Soukh, the marketplace. Enter the famous Soukh market, with its profusion of colours, sounds, and aromas. All wares are sold, from cloth of colours and textures to gold, jewellery and perfume, as well as the traditional array of spices and local produce. Bartering is expected, and indeed turns the whole experience of shopping into a challenge to see who can obtain the best price....but you don't have to barter because we do that for you!

Ethical Trading Policy
Each item is individually selected in order to ensure its quality and that the principles of fair trade are adhered to. All of our products are purchased at source direct from the craftsmen; the majority are manufactured by the Amazigh (Berber) and Tuareg artisans of North Africa and in particular Morocco. This ensures that the producer receives a fair price for the labour intensive process that goes in to making these exceptional and original items. Our customers can therefore be assured that their purchase is not only of the highest quality but also traded with integrity.

The handicrafts sector holds a significant position in Moroccan economy and employs an important segment of the labor force, the 2nd place after agriculture. In terms of foreign currency earnings, the handicrafts sector ranks 5th after remittances from Moroccan nationals abroad, phosphate exports, agriculture and tourism.

Our products are also produced and packaged with consideration for the environment. All of our packaging uses recycled materials wherever possible.

Fair trade is of the highest importance to both our customers and suppliers and as demand and awareness grows there will be further need for individual, high quality products that are not mass produced or traded without consideration of the social and economic wellbeing of the producers.

Thank-you for visiting our website. We hope that you enjoy our products and that they help to give a flavour of the unique North African experience.
